Abstract

The University Museums located in the National Hospital of Clinics, work hard in the design and implementation of policies according to the development of these institutions. This is precisely the case for macroscopic pieces preserved in formol that have no description. The aim of this work was to expose the scientific methods and processes adopted in the conservation and use of macroscopic collections. Highlight the technical procedures adopted and executed in the register of collections of anatomical origin preserved in liquid media.

The research work will be carried out in macroscopic pieces preserved in a liquid medium, which have no labels or origin or pathology. A macro and microscopic examination will be carried out with the purpose of determining their nature by re-hydrating the parts, and then analyzing their structure and morphology.

Ten anatomical preparations were obtained and identified to be exhibited in display cases. The procedure for identifying the parts included a register consisting of: a) the data of the part, b) the study of its conditions and c) consolidation, that is, the technical and scientific procedures carried out for its entrenchment as a heritage piece. The value of these pieces promotes research and legitimizes teaching and learning processes for both students and museum visitors.

Putting in place policies for the management of collections is to include practical, technical, ethical and legal methods, which allow to gather, organize, study, interpret and preserve the scientific collections of museums, actions that allow they to ensure their state of preservation and perpetuity of the collections.
