The restoration process and the problem of reinterpreting art made by others

The passage of time and the obsolescence of the supports are today the two elementary factors that invite to submit an artistic piece, in any of its forms, to a process of restoration. With this in mind, there is no doubt about the importance of the safeguarding and subsequent restoration of all heritage: the material and tangible art works; and also the immaterial, sound and audiovisual works that live inside different media storage supports.
In this paper, we are going to analize this situation and propose some solutions coming mostly from philosophic thoughts about the context of actual media art.
