Abstract

En las últimas décadas la mejoría en la sobrevida y en la calidad de vida del Lupus Eritematoso Sistémico (LES) ha conducido a un aumento en el número de embarazos en estas pacientes a lo largo de su enfermedad. En el pasado la recomendación era evitar el embarazo debido a las complicaciones maternas y fetales (1,2). En los últimos años, el pronóstico del embarazo en el LES ha mejorado indudablemente con una reducción significativa de las pérdidas fetales del 40% en los años 60 al 65 al 17% en algunas series del 2000 al 2003 (3). Sin embargo, el embarazo en mujeres con LES puede todavía estar asociado a complicaciones maternas y fetales.
