Resumen

Introducción y objetivos: Leucaena leucocephala (Fabaceae) ha sido considerada como una de las 100 especies más invasoras a escala global. A pesar de su amenaza potencial, su introducción se promueve cada vez más para la agrosilvicultura, la ornamentación, el sombreado y la artesanía en las regiones forestales cálidas y templadas de la Argentina. La amenaza a la biodiversidad de las poblaciones de Leucaena se ha informado en todo el mundo, donde el control no fue efectivo. Los objetivos del presente estudio fueron efectuar un registro actualizado de las poblaciones naturalizadas en Argentina, y brindar información sobre los procesos históricos y actuales de naturalización e invasión. 

M&M: Los registros se documentaron mediante la recolección de material a campo y consulta de material depositado en herbarios. También se realizaron observaciones a campo para conocer los procesos actuales de naturalización y su interacción con dispersores/depredadores. 

Resultados: Se estableció el estatus de invasora en Argentina y se reconocieron dos vías de introducción. En base al aspecto general de los bosquecillos y el microhábitat que se genera en los ambientes invadidos se considera a esta especie como transformadora en la Argentina. Se indican las características reproductivas y su interacción con otros estamentos de la biodiversidad regional relacionados con el proceso invasor. 

Conclusiones: La interpretación de etiquetas de herbario permitió establecer que en 1921 ya estaba naturalizada en el país. Se discute la intervención del ser humano en su dispersión y se plantean futuros escenarios.
