Abstract

In university education, ICTs constitute a valuable alternative in the improvement of science teaching and learning processes. Hypermedia applications can facilitate the understanding of scientific processes and biological concepts, thus fostering the development of cognitive skills. Considering this, a hypermedia application was designed and implemented for a practical assignment about the Cell Cycle that enables students not only to explore contents in an interactive, nonlinear way, but also to construct their own knowledge. The implementation of the application showed that this approach fulfilled teachers’ and students’ needs by facilitating the understanding of the topic and by applying the cognitive skills developed by traditional teaching, as well as those emerging from the digital age.
