Abstract

Zoos and related institutions are currently recognized as non-formal education spaces playing an important role in terms of spreading environmental knowledge. The objective of this work is to depict the educational profile of three zoos in Brazil and Colombia, and to study the approach to the concept of biodiversity within their educational activities. This will be achieved by analyzing the answers to a questionnaire on educational practices in zoos given by the directors of the educational departments of these institutions. Their educational role proved helpful as regards the creation of citizenship awareness in relation to conservation and the ecology and cultural aspects of biodiversity.
