Graciela Alonso: A Defiant Teacher

Graciela Alonso was born in Cañuelas, Buenos Aires (Argentina), on November 25, 1961. She studied Teaching Educational Sciences. She worked in several popular neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. In February 1986 she moved to Neuquén (Argentina). She started working as a professor in Educational Sciences at the Universidad Nacional del Comahue. There, she worked as an undergraduate and graduate teacher and she was an active member of the university teachers' union Asociación de Docentes de la Universidad Nacional del Comahue (ADUNC). Since 2010 her research projects have focused on analyzing the relationships between colonialism and gender, on community and indigenous feminisms, and, in particular, on the role of Mapuce women in the fight against extractivism. At the time of her death, on March 1st, 2020, she was a member of the Núcleo de Estudios Socio-antropológicos of the Instituto Patagónico de Estudios en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales (IPEHCS) of the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), based on the Universidad Nacional del Comahue. Since 2001 she collaborated with Ruth Zurbriggen and val flores on the foundation of the feminist collective La Revuelta in Neuquén.
