Abstract

The present world, with its natural disasters, poverty, and concern over the scarcity of natural resources, requires social communication media to keep society informed and updated about the origin and consequences of environmental issues. This implies media´s commitment with the education of the audience by addressing environmental news, and with biological education, because of the close connection between biological and environmental topics. However, environmental news in scarcely and superficially reported by the Argentine media. To change this situation for the better, appropriately trained journalists are needed. For this reason, the undergraduate and graduate education programs in Environmental and Scientific Journalism offered in Argentina were evaluated. The study was also extended to the main Universities in Latin America and Spain. The educational programs offered in this field are most absent in Argentine Universities, very scarce in come Latin American universities, and slightly developed in Spain.
