The Zebrafish: A Tool in Education

Abstract

The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a vertebrate belonging to the Cyprinidae family native to India, Bangladesh, Nepal and northern Myanmar. Its biological characteristics have led to its use as an animal model in biomedical sciences since the 90s’.The zebrafish, which is currently spreading as a tool in education, has a specialized scientific journal: “Zebrafish”, which has been published since 2004. The incorporation and dissemination of zebrafish in education is likely to have a beneficial effect because of the advantages of this animal model. This work presents some important milestones in order to promote the knowledge of this model in education.
