Abstract

In this study, we describe the planning, preparation and presentation of the ScienceFair Investigation at a rural school in Pernambuco, Brazil. We found that the students’ mainconcerns were related to health and environment, with emphasis on the problems of theircommunity. Students and visitors considered the experience to be very positive to improvetheir own knowledge and to help solve such problems in their community. The experiencehelped the students bring together the daily life of a scientist with their own reality living ina farming community with limited resources, and motivated them to keep on investigatingenvironmental problems around the school.
