Abstract

Chagas disease is a public health problem in America. In Mexico, the natural form of transmission is through a hematophage insect that transmits the parasite when feeding, causing heart and abdomen problems. In areas where the vector insect is present, the habitants do not have the knowledge to understand that this disease represents a health problem. We reckon that the first step to recognize this disease is to distinguish the vector insects in each community. In order to accomplish this, we have built entomological collections in each region, conducted in conjunction with elementary students, teachers, and parents. This experience was the first step towards an educational intervention of Chagas disease in these communities.
