Abstract

The teaching of Natural Science in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) should be directed through a systemic and holistic approach that enables the treatment of Biology and Geology from an integrative perspective and from the socalled evolutionary spiral curriculum to ensure meaningful learning. This evolutionary and systemic perspective becomes more crucial for the fourth grade of ESO (15-16 years old) where two great paradigms of Biology and Geology (the Evolution of Species and Plate Tectonics) are studied. Therefore, we present a specific methodological approach that allows integration and cohesion of Biology and Geology through a systemic view of natural processes where the human being is another element that affects and interacts in their environment.
