Earthworms: a little-known resource

Abstract

In this article the importance of earthworms in the formation and maintenance of soil structure is pointed out. Due to their subterranean behavior, the habit of burrowing galleries and vertical distribution in the soil, the main ecological categories and their general characteristics are given. In addition, the practical potential of these animals (vermiculture) and the convenience of knowing the beneficial species for a rational exploitation are indicated.
