Abstract

The objective of this work is to present the strategy used for the elaboration of concept maps, to analyze how the students lived this experience and to identify possible applications of this tool in the area of health sciences. This study was carried out in the period from January 2001 to 2003, and 237 maps and individual accounts of the elaboration process were collected. The analysis of the data allowed identifying that a large percentage of the students revealed different degrees of initial difficulty in their elaboration followed by a successive appropriation and valorization of this tool in their teacher training process. In turn, the elaboration of concept maps proved to be a facilitating strategy of the teaching-learning process, enabling communication and integration of concepts considering broader contexts, continuous monitoring of the process of individual and collective construction of knowledge, facilitating both hetero-evaluation and self-evaluation.
