Abstract

The Documentary Collection Victoriano Anguiano Equihua is safeguarded in the Documental Holdings Section of the Historical Archives at the “Luis González” Library at El Colegio de Michoacán, A.C., in Zamora, Michoacán, in western Mexico. This text discusses the importance of this Collection for conducting historical studies of sociopolitical, cultural and educational processes in the decades of 1930 to 1950 from two perspectives: regional studies focused on Michoacán, and broader national –even transnational– research propitiated by the many rich documents and other materials contained in this valuable documentary
repository. To highlight the significance of the Anguiano Collection, the article emphasizes the importance of this politician and intellectual, especially the originality of his project while serving as the Rector of the century-old Universidad Michoacana. Another important theme is Anguiano’s professional trajectory, which is framed in the context of Mexico’s post-revolutionary period and the contemporary Latin American academic and intellectual networks in which he participated.
