Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Otosclerosis is a bone remodeling disorder characterized by decreased stirrup mobility, which results in hearing loss and tinnitus. The most commonly used and most effective treatment is surgery. The main objective is a significant improvement in hearing loss, but the reduction of tinnitus is an additional benefit. OBJECTIVES: To determine the changes in the sensation of tinnitus after stapedectomy in patients with otosclerosis operated in our environment; as well as the factors that could be associated with these changes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a prospective, observational, analytical and longitudinal study, which included 15 patients with otosclerosis operated in the Sanatorium who underwent a complete examination with Audiometry, Tinnitus and Computed Tomography; Data were collected using the Global Clinical Printing Scale and the Functional Tinnitus Index, at the time prior to surgery and three months after surgery. Soft R-medic and Infostat was used to analyze the variables and graph the results. RESULTS: The differences between pre and postoperative hearing status were statistically significant (p << 0.001). In addition, statistically significant differences were found between the perception of tinnitus before and after surgery (p << 0.001). And that said difference is statistically related to the improvement of hearing (p = 0.01). DISCUSSION- CONCLUSION: Most patients reported an improvement in the state of perception of tinnitus; in addition to the improvement in your hearing; resulting in significant association both variables.
