Abstract

This article approaches ecoperformance, a performing arts concept coined by the Brazilian choreographer Maura Baiocchi and formulated in collaboration with the German theater director Wolfgang Pannek. In the first part the article introduces to this subject by detailing the goals, the program and the results of the 1st International Ecoperformance Festival, a project conceived by Baiocchi and produced in March 2021 by the group she founded, Taanteatro Companhia. The second part of the article contextualizes the concept of ecoperformance within the scope of the choreographer's artistic trajectory and a set of her conceptual creations (tension, ecorporeality, schizopresence), constitutive of taanteatro or choreographic theater of tensions. In its third part, and based on the preceding conceptual considerations, the article outlines the proposal for a reorientation of the performing arts: its departure from an anthroposcene towards a symbioscene.

Author Biography

Wolfgang Pannek Pannek, Compañía Taanteatro

Wolfgang Pannek. German author, stage director, performer, translator, and producer based in Brazil since 1992. Director of Taanteatro Companhia, (São Paulo, Brazil) with Maura Baiocchi since 1994. MA (Philosophy, Literature and Psychology) from FernUniversität Hagen (Germany). Ph.D. candidate in philosophy at the Leipzig Academy of Arts under the supervision of Marc Rölli.

 

Pannek was production director of the Muestra 95 Butoh and Teatro Pesquisa, creator and production director of "Artaud 100 Anos", coordinator of the Matola-Brazil Cultural Exchange (2005), and organizer of Giro Hans Thies Lehmann Brasil 2010. He conceived and produced "Occupation Artaud" (2016) and "Occupation Deleuze" (2017) at the Teatro Aliança Francesa in São Paulo. He acted as choreographer and actor in Os Sertões, under the direction of José Celso Martinez Corrêa.

He created and directed the trilogy Cartaudgrafia (2015), about the life and work of Antonin Artaud, and the show "1001 Mezetas" (2017) based on the play Mil Plateaus by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. He conceived and produced the collective film "The Theater and the Plague of Antonin Artaud" (2020). In television, he participated as an actor in the series "fdp" (HBO Brazil, 2012), in the soap opera "Além do horizonte" (TV Globo, 2014) and in the series "El Presidente: Jogo da Corrupção" (Amazon Prime, 2022).

 

Along with Maura Baiocchi, Pannek wrote the books "Taanteatro: choreographic theater of tensions" (2007); "Taanteatro: rite of initiation" (2011); "Taanteatro: MAE - Mandale de Energia Corporal" (2013); "Taanteatro: [Des] Construction and Esquizopresença" (2016); "Taanteatroe: force and forms" (2018); "Choreographic theater of tensions: forces and forms" (2020).
