Two centuries after the arrival of the vaccine against smallpox, 1805-2005

The vaccine against the small pox arrived to Buenos Aires on July 5th 1805, by initiative of the Viceroy Marqués de Sobre Monte, who founded the first Vaccine Preservation Commission, under the direction of the Dean Dr. Saturnino Segurola. The “Royal Sea Expedition of the Vaccine” and its conductors Francisco Javier de Balmis and José Salvany, introducers of the preventive method in the Americas, are briefly mentioned. The review of the main historicl and marks of vaccination in Córdoba reveal the prominent role of these professors of our Faculty of Medical Sciences.
