Ethical Code

Polifónicxs promotes good editorial practices aimed at ensuring the quality of academic production. As an editorial team, we are committed to carrying out our responsibilities in the editorial process, striving to avoid practices considered inappropriate (plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and fraud) and any potential conflicts of interest that may arise between the parties involved (editors, authors, reviewers, etc.). Consequently, our journal aligns with the Principles of Transparency and Best Practices in Academic Publishing proposed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Responsibilities of the Journal Coordinators:

  • Ensure the full and proper functioning of the journal at all levels in relation to its focus and the policies adopted by the journal.
  • Promote and guarantee a transparent, rigorous, and ethical editorial process, refraining from performing tasks as reviewers.
  • Represent the journal in all circumstances where required.

Coordinators also have the following duties:

  • Define the thematic focus for each issue’s dossier, in agreement with the chief editors of each section.
  • Coordinate the proper and fair distribution of responsibilities among the editorial committee members.
  • Serve as the first and last filter in the editorial process.

Responsibilities of Section Editors (Editorial Committee):

  • Ensure the development of the editorial process within the section under their charge, adhering to the general and specific guidelines (author guidelines, section guidelines, and evaluation).
  • Ensure the proper use of personal data for authors and reviewers.
  • Propose thematic focuses and coordinators for each issue’s dossier to the coordination.

Section editors also have the following responsibilities:

  • Inform the coordinators about progress and any problems that arise during the editorial process. Coordinators have the full authority to decide on the steps to follow.

Responsibilities of the Advisory Board:

  • Perform their advisory functions voluntarily and without compensation.
  • Suggest potential editors, advisors, reviewers, or dossier coordinators.
  • Suggest thematic focuses for each issue’s dossier.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of the journal’s editorial proposal to expand its field of participation and reception.
  • Contribute with their advice to the overall improvement of the journal at all levels.

Responsibilities of the Authors:

  • Familiarize themselves with and adhere to the journal’s guidelines regarding ethical practices in research and academic publishing, avoiding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and fraud.
  • Follow the formal and section-specific guidelines required for publication in this journal.
  • Wait for the reviewer committee’s verdict for each call before submitting their work to another academic publication space.
  • Provide all the personal data requested by the editors and coordinators.
  • Commit to all stages of the editorial process, which includes being open to making the required changes and corrections.
  • Obtain proper authorization for the use of tables and figures if including materials with copyrighted content in the submitted work.
  • Provide all required documentation: faculty endorsement, regular student certificate, and authorization for the use of tables and figures.
  • Ensure the correct and equitable contribution of both authors in the case of co-authored works.

Finally, authors are fully responsible for the statements, ideas, and judgments expressed in their works, relieving Polifónicxs of any responsibility.

Responsibilities of the Reviewers:

  • Accept the task of reviewing voluntarily, considering their suitability for the thematic area required by the assigned work.
  • Carry out the review of the assigned works according to the selection and evaluation criteria stipulated by the journal, within the designated time frame, and ensuring the anonymity of their task at all times.
  • Perform their work critically (without opinions or value judgments) and respectfully, always bearing in mind that the review process should be a learning opportunity for the author.
