Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Academic Articles – Thematic Dossier

We accept academic papers that develop original hypotheses from a perspective linked to critical discourse studies.

The proposal (analysis corpus and methodological approach) must align with the theoretical, critical, or methodological framework established in each issue’s dossier. The editorial committee will define a conceptual focus related to discourse studies for each issue, and this section will be structured accordingly.

Submissions should be between nine (9) and twenty (20) pages and must include:

  • Title (in Spanish and English)
  • Abstract (in Spanish and English)
  • Introduction (research problem, theoretical framework, objectives, and hypothesis)
  • Materials or corpus composition
  • Analysis
  • Conclusions
  • References and sources

Academic Articles – Open Topic

We accept academic papers that develop original hypotheses related to the analysis of discursive practices and social phenomena in their various semiotic dimensions, including photography, music, audiovisual productions, oral and written discourses, performance, video games, and more.

Submissions should be between nine (9) and twenty (20) pages and must include:

  • Title (in Spanish and English)
  • Abstract (in Spanish and English)
  • Introduction (research problem, theoretical framework, objectives, and hypothesis)
  • Materials or corpus composition
  • Analysis
  • Conclusions
  • References and sources

Essay Section

Polifónicxs is particularly interested in the epistemological and theoretical potential embedded in the aesthetic experience provided by artistic objects. Therefore, we aim to encourage alternative approaches to discourse, such as literary and artistic criticism linked to essayistic thought.

This section accepts critical essays that analyze aesthetic objects or explore categories, theories, and methodologies related to discursive phenomena.

Submissions should be between nine (9) and twenty (20) pages and must include:

  • Title (in Spanish and English)
  • Abstract (in Spanish and English)
  • Presentation and development of arguments
  • Conclusions
  • References and sources

If your article includes tables or figures, please review the journal’s policies regarding their usage before submission.

Review Section

This section welcomes reviews of academic publications that are considered theoretically and methodologically significant contributions to the field, as well as critical readings of audiovisual narratives (films, TV series, documentaries, video games, video essays, etc.) released within the last two (2) years.

Submission Guidelines

Essays should be between three (3) and five (5) pages and must include:

  • Title (in Spanish and English)
  • Author information:
    • Full name
    • Degree program, university, city, and country
    • Email
    • ORCID registration number
  • Technical details of the reviewed work
  • Critical reflection (introduction, development, and conclusion)
  • References and sources

For Audiovisual Works

  • Title (original and translated, if applicable)
  • Director
  • Production Company
  • Country of Origin
  • Year of Release
  • Duration (in minutes)

For Academic Publications

  • Title (original and translated, if applicable)
  • Author
  • Publisher
  • Year of Publication
  • Total Pages

Image Requirement

Submissions must include a promotional image of the audiovisual work (film, series, video game, etc.) or the book cover of the reviewed publication.

  • Format: .jpg or .png
  • Minimum resolution: 1500 pixels on the shortest side
  • Submission: The image should be attached separately in the email alongside the review manuscript.
