Abstract

This tribute aims to analyze bell hooks’ educational approach, in view of her proposals for dialectical interaction between theoretical knowledge and experiences in the educational field. The text brings as methodology a theoretical approach, with her reflections on decolonization in education and, in addition, Paulo Freire’s influence on her thoughts. From the analyzes carried out, we understand that maintaining the legacy of bell hooks to achieve a transgressive education is fundamental. Her thoughts are part of the path to education as practice of freedom.

Halina Macedo Leal, Regional University of Blumenau

PhD in Philosophy from the University of São Paulo - USP, Brazil (2005). Professor at the Regional University of Blumenau - FURB, Brazil. She leads the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Gender, Race and Power, GENERA-FURB. She develops projects in the Brazilian Network of Women Philosophers and in UNESCO's Latin American Network of Women Philosophers.

Amanda Motta Castro, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande/FURG

PhD in Education from UNISINOS. Professor of the Postgraduate Programme in Education at the Federal University of Rio Grande/FURG.
