The semantic field of the Greek term pathos, from which terms such aspathology and passions derive, has been reduced in the current disciplinesrelated to mental health to the pathological, generating an opposition with whatwould be normal that varies according to the interests that determine theclassifications A succinct review of the history of this classical term and itsclinical and ethical importance in psychoanalysis allows us to illuminate the fieldof what is symptomatic and analyzable in this discipline, and the rapportbetween passion and unconscious desire.
