Abstract

l-luni an hlood plasma conidios alkal inc phosphatasc (1-:(' 3. 1 .3. 1) isoenzymes from hone, 1 ver and intcstine. B lood of pregnant
women in the third trimester of gestation also contains afl isoenzynle of alkalinc phosphaiase froni placenta. placental-AP (PLAP). Seruni f'roni pregnint women in the last ini mester of gesialion shows activity of soluble placental alkaline phosphatase (sol-PLAP). It is also known thai a membrane bound high molecular wcight placental-AP (high Mi--PLAP) is preseni in butanol extract s 1 rom placental tissue. Neventheless. up to now. high Mi-PLAP has not hecn founded in human plasma. A rnethod developed in this laboratory al lows detection of membrane-hound alkaline phosphatase in pellet of pltsrrii centrtf'uged at 100.000xg. By applying
lii is nieihod wc have detected high molecular weight placental alkaline phosphatasc in plas- ma of healthy pregnani wonien ni the third trinicster of prcgnancy.
