Comechingonia is a publication that began in the city of Córdoba -Argentina- 40 years ago and has consolidated an outstanding trajectory in the field of Archaeology in the southern cone of America. Throughout its history, our journal has been the medium chosen by renowned experts, both nationally and internationally, to disseminate the results of their research, mainly related to the history of the American continent.

The journal was founded in 1983 under the direction of Dr. Eduardo Berberián, who was the driving force behind its creation. During his leadership, the journal published eight issues covering research in the fields of archaeology and ethnohistory, presenting works by both local and national researchers. In addition to the regular issues, the journal also launched special editions that highlighted comprehensive research or sets of papers presented at international conferences.

Unfortunately, throughout the 1990s, Argentina's economic problems, and especially the defunding of the scientific system, placed significant obstacles in the way of the journal's continuity, and it ceased publication for ten years.

In 2006, disciples of Dr. Berberián, who at that time were collaborating in the framework of the Chair of Prehistory and Archaeology at the National University of Córdoba, decided to resume the editorial effort. Their aim was to re-establish a space of high academic quality, aimed at channelling the results of the numerous research projects that had proliferated, largely due to state support for science.

The journal quickly managed to consolidate and gain recognition by being included in numerous high quality bibliographic indexes. In 2009, it joined the publications of the Centro de Estudios Históricos Carlos S.A. Segreti. Since then, the journal has maintained its regularity and has been updated to the new demands of editorial-academic standards, increasing its periodicity, speed of manuscript processing, scope, work team, number of submissions published annually and being included in the main global indexes.

Comechingonia is hosted in the repository of journals of the National University of Cordoba (UNC) (https://revistas.unc.edu.ar/). There is a close link between this university and the journal, as all the editors have been professors at the UNC since its origins. In addition, the University's portal allows participation in a digital platform that promotes Open Access, provides storage on a secure institutional server, and favours the dissemination of content.
