APPROACH AND SCOPE

"Comechingonia" is a periodical publication, which publishes 2 issues a year, and diffuses original and unpublished research in the field of archeology.

The articles will be sought to reflect certain aspects of contemporary scientific production within the academic field. In this sense, strictly regional problems will be included within the neighboring country or countries, as well as theoretical-methodological or specific contributions to different sub-disciplines (zooarcheology, archaeobotany, geoarcheology, bioarcheology, etc.).

JOURNAL TRAJECTORY

Comechingonia. Revista de Arqueología is a publication originated in the city of Córdoba with 35 years of experience in the field of Argentine Archeology, in which renowned scholars of the American past at national and international level have been published the results of their research.

The journal originated in 1983, under the direction of Dr. Eduardo Berberián as a result of a local drive. As such, it published 8 issues that included paper on archeology and ethnohistory by local and national researchers. Likewise, the journal had some special issues that obtained a knowledge of comprehensive research or sets of works specified in International Congresses.

Unfortunately, the economic problems of our country throughout the 1990s, and above all the underfunding of the scientific system, made it difficult for the journal to have its last issue in 1995.

Already in 2006, Dr. Berberián's disciples, who at that time worked within the framework of the Chair of Prehistory Archeology at the National University of Córdoba, decided to resume the editorial effort with the aim of generating a quality space to channel the results of the multiple investigations that were multiplied mainly from the impulse given by the state to science.

The journal quickly varied and was accepted in various quality indices. In 2009 it was incorporated as a publication of the Centro de Estudios Históricos Carlos S.A. Segreti.

Currently, Comechingonia maintains a quarterly frequency and publishes the investigations of teams from the country and from other countries, including Articles, Notes and Dossiers.

PEER REVIEW

All the contributions that Comechingonia receives are reviewed by the Editorial Committee, which executes a formal review of the work ensuring that it complies with the editorial norms and originality criteria. The Editors reserve the right to reject submitted contributions if they do not meet minimum quality requirements, if they exceed the maximum length established for each category or if they are not unpublished research results. The Editors' decision will be final and they will not give the right to reply.

Subsequently, the manuscripts are submitted to external peer review proposed ad hoc by the Editors of the journal and the Editorial Committee.

The review is based on the evaluation of various formal manuscript submission criteria as well as their academic content. As a result, peer reviewers should suggest to the editorial committee their opinion that the manuscript be published (as it was submitted, revised or intensely modified) or rejected.

Based on this, the Editorial Committee will only consider for acceptance those manuscripts that obtain a publication recommendation by both evaluators. In the event that there are differences in criteria between the peers, a new round of revision will be carried out, incorporating new reviewers that allow deciding the editorial and academic quality of said manuscript.

The review process guarantees the anonymity of the reviewers and authors (if requested). In the latter case (authors) it must be requested before sending the manuscript.

For the reference, the external evaluators consider the following aspects:

  1. a) Content

In this sense, it adheres to what the Committee on Publications Ethics (COPE, http://publicationethics.org/resources/code-conduct) suggests, emphasizing the following questions.

The Editorial Team has the power of decision on what is published in the CRA evaluating the originality and importance of the subject for Archeology in general. Likewise, and if necessary, the Editorial Team may make corrections, clarifications and apologies.

In order to detect coincidences between the works received and the publications in other sources of those who declare their authorship and of other authors / authors, before starting the references, the Editorial Committee uses Internet search tools. In order to confirm originality and avoid plagiarism, self-plagiarism and redundant publication, the article is reviewed in its entirety.

Upon detection of plagiarism, self-plagiarism and redundant publication, the authors are sent the evidence of what has been detected and a discharge is requested.
