Abstract

In this article, we make a historical journey that focus on the ideas that from the antiquity have influenced our conceptions of the world, understood in a broad sense, but oriented to those conceptions that have influenced in cosmologies, that is, in the scientific conceptions of the universe. We are referring to questions such as what is the universe made of? Or, what is there? The conceptions of the world have historically defined cultural traditions that permeate our culture and cross the scientific visions of any discipline. This course ends with the twentieth century mechanicism conception. We will do it further considering that our interest is centered in the teaching of the natural sciences. The conception of the world that has a citizen is determinant of the place that it will give to the sciences, for example, in the decision making or in its attempts to understand issues that concern to him.
