Abstract

During the last five years, the Admittance System and the subject Introduction to Physics from the School of Engineering at the UNRC have been working on social networks, mainly with Whatsapp, to achieve argument and problem–solving skills in physics.
Results obtained from the study allow us to state that social networks contribute to achieving both the intended skills and a higher academic performance in those students who actively interact with it. Furthermore, this interaction turns closed groups into a significant place to integrate into university culture. Study groups are fostered, academic and social communication among its members is enhanced and the feeling of uprooting is reduced in those students who come from other cities. University endeavors to reduce school dropout rates are also benefited.
