Abstract

The aim of this study is to present the adaptation and validation of the Children's Eating Attitudes Test (ChEAT) in a sample of 243 school children from the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) aged between 9 and 13. Analysis of the factorial structure was conducted, and psychometric characteristics of the scale were examined. Results: three factors explained almost 40% of the variance. Cronbach’s α was .814 for the total scale, but declines to analyze the factors separately. ChEAT total score was related to body image satisfaction and weight category according to body mass index. Sensitivity was 73.91% and specificity 72.45% for a cut-off of 11. Finally we can conclude that the ChEAT has adequate psychometric characteristics and that is a promising instrument for measuring disturbed eating behaviors in children of CABA.
