Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze a didactic tool that aims to improve the scientific competence of students. In particular, the focus is on argumentative competence on scientific topics; in this exploratory investigation, the topic "the use of nuclear energy to produce electricity in Argentina" is proposed. The participating students belong to the 4th year of secondary schools in the district of Lomas de Zamora in the province of Buenos Aires. The research methodology consists of the analysis of argumentative texts in two instances: before and after speaking, reading and writing about the subject in question. From the analysis of these records, as a first approximation, it can be concluded that scientific competence is closely related to the scientific culture that each person has, and how strengthening argumentative skills significantly improves people's scientific competences. It is important to remember that it is concluded that scientific competence is related to scientific culture and scientific literacy.
