Javier Guiamet

Abstract

This paper aims to examine how Argentinean socialists perceived Luis Angel Firpo´s famous boxing fights. In order to do this, the articles in the socialist’s newspaper called La Vanguardia are analyzed, based on the hypothesis that this new spectacle, that increased its popularity as part of an early mass culture in the interwar period in Argentina, represented a direct challenge to the Socialist Party’s cultural project.
