Abstract

This dossier brings together works presented at the symposium "From the sources: advances in the studies of selection and supply of rocks and their implications for social practices" carried out within the framework of the 1st Argentine Congress of Lithic Studies in Archeology. The presentations were made in a fruitful framework of discussion of theoretical proposals, methodological approaches, and case studies, which resulted in the seven works published here. The studies allow establishing a series of thematic axes that expose research interests oriented to the archaeological and geological characterization of sources of raw materials, to assess the progress generated from various methodological approaches, and others aimed at investigating production strategies, exchange and interaction implemented by peoples in the past.

Author Biography

Manuel Enrique Cueto, CONICET, División Arqueología, Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo, Universidad Nacional de La Plata

Investigador de Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Estudio los modos de vida de las sociedades de cazadores-recolectores que habitaron la Patagonia austral. Con enfasis en el análisis de las prácticas sociales vinculadas a la tecnología lítica y a la comprensión del uso dado a los artefactos a través del análisis funcional de base microscópica y de residuos.

Licenciado en Antropología de la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina. Doctor en Arqueología de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires. Docente en la Licenciatura de Antropología (FCNyM/UNLP) en la Cátedra de "Prehistoria Extra-Americana del Viejo Mundo".
