Abstract

The presence on the internet through a solvent website contributes to the achievement of the essential objectives of any school library, among which is the development of language skills in its users. In this article, a macro sociological and evaluative field research on the quality of the contents present in school libraries websites in Andalucía and Extremadura is presented.  We studied 517 websites from the 3,042 Primary Education schools (public, private and state-financed) in the two Spanish autonomous regions; the representative sample was 221 pages. The tool used for the research consisted of 8 indicators and 28 sub-indicators regarding information, update, publications, activities and materials. The main objective of the research was to categorize the real online content and to detect its strengths and weaknesses. Thus, actions for the improvement of the school libraries digital dimension are proposed in the discussion, and which can be extrapolated to any other geographical area.
