Abusive use of Information and Communication Technologies: intervention experience in Addiction Prevention in San Luis

Abstract

The World Health Organization recognizes that one in four people suffers from some form of suffering related to Addictions Without Substances, including abusive use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).In 2008, the first assistance service was opened in the Province of San Luis for the care of pathological gambling, a non-chemical addiction of which there was little knowledge until then. Almost a decade later, consultations are being made from concerned parents because their children are immersed in social networks most of the day, with negative consequences on a personal, family and social level and the consequent lack of interest in other activities that do not include ICTs. The purpose of the present work is to relate an experience in the approach of this problem, with the objective of generating awareness and new perspectives of intervention in the prevention of addictions.
