Abstract

The excessive use of smartphones by adolescents has led to addictive behaviors that affect physical, psychological and social health, such as "nomophobia", which is the irrational fear of not having the smartphone within reach, losing it, not having a signal or data or running out of battery, as well as the impossibility of answering advertisements and thus disconnecting from the virtual world. The methodology is based on a systematic review that includes a process of collection, grouping and evaluation of different scientific articles on the subject that have been published in scientific journals in the last five years. The results show that adolescence is the most vulnerable stage to suffer from this condition, having implications and consequences on mental health. Among the conclusions we can find that nomophobia is linked to anxiety disorders and depression, affects academic performance, it is important to mention that adolescents with this behavior have low levels of regulation and their emotional intelligence is altered.
