Resumen

El deterioro cognitivo es un síndrome que disminuye la independencia funcional afectando la cognición, las capacidades motrices y emocionales.

Objetivo: Destacar el valor de un enfoque integral desde la psicoinmunoendocrinología (PINE/PNIE), para la comprensión, prevención y manejo del deterioro cognitivo.

La pérdida de las capacidades cognitivas tiene una evolución neurodegenerativa lenta y progresiva, siendo su máxima expresión la demencia. Es un problema sanitario relacionado con la edad y tiene asociada la obesidad como factor de riesgo. Por ello constituye un desafío de salud pública mundial cada vez mayor, a medida que aumenta el envejecimiento poblacional y la prevalencia global de la obesidad.

Conclusiones: Un abordaje desde la psicoinmunoendocrinología, que incluyera aspectos psicosociales, metabólicos, endócrinos y mantención de un peso saludable, podría ayudar a mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas previniendo la aparición de deterioro cognitivo o disminuyendo la severidad de los cuadros hasta edades muy avanzadas.
