Abstract

The article addresses the theme of the third mission of Universities, related to innovation and the role of Universities as a vector of the development process of the society where they operate. In this sense, it analyzes the main models of University-Enterprise-Government interaction, the Triple and Quadruple Helix approach of local development and the role of innovation in this process. At the end, it reflects on the possibilities, challenges and opportunities of innovation as a factor for the development of territories, concluding that the balance between tradition (represented by academic values) and innovation (represented by the new demands of society) is the differential that the best Universities of the future are building today.

Jorge Audy, Superintendente de Inovação e Desenvolvimento da PUCRS e do TECNOPUC

Doutorado na área de Sistemas de Informação pela UFRGS (2001), com Pós-Doutorado na IASP (Associação Internacional de Parques Científicos e Áreas de Inovação), na Tsinghua University, China e Universidade de Málaga, Espanha (2016). Professor Titular da Escola Politécnica e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciência da Computação. É Superintendente de Inovação e Desenvolvimento da PUCRS e do TECNOPUC. É membro de diversos Conselhos, como o Conselho de Diretores do Parque Científico e Tecnológico do Qatar (Qatar Foundation, Doha), Conselho Consultivo do Parque Tecnológico do Bio-Bio (Universidade de Concepción, Chile), Conselho de Diretores da Triple Helix Association (THA, Stanford, USA), Conselho Deliberativo Nacional do SEBRAE e Conselho Consultivo da FINEP (CTS-Fomento). Foi Presidente da IASP (Associação Internacional de Parques Científicos e Tecnológicos e Áreas de Inovação, LATAM), da ANPROTEC, do FOPROP (Fórum de Pró-Reitores de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação das Universidades Brasileiras) e da Comissão Nacional de Acompanhamento do PNPG 2011-2022 (MEC/Capes). Dentre outros reconhecimentos, recebeu a Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico na categoria Comendador e o título de Cidadão Emérito de Porto Alegre
