Incidence of environmental factors on multidimensional poverty in Colombia: case of the municipality of Linares, Nariño

Abstract

The construction of the article is based on the integration of theoretical aspects and econometric elements to explain the impact of environmental factors on multidimensional poverty in the municipality of Linares, Nariño. For this reason, it is understood that multidimensionality refers to various concepts that characterize the modus vivendi of the population, for example, their development capacity, quality of life, education, health, income level, expenditure amounts, their coexistence with the natural environment, among others. Thus, the main objective of this paper is to reveal whether environmental factors are actually capable of influencing the multidimensional poverty of people, which is conceived as the inability to achieve well-being from deprivations in the economic, social, political-institutional and environmental dimensions. The relationships mentioned are interpreted through the use of probabilistic econometric models Logit and Probit, in such a way that the methodological process was articulated from the positivist paradigm with the integrality and benefits of the mixed type of research, which favors the exploratory and descriptive conception of the data. In this order of ideas, the results are analyzed from an inductive perspective, given that the selected and prioritized econometric model was able to argue and refute the theoretical-conceptual components through quantifiable products with factual criteria to demonstrate that environmental factors had a reduced capacity when explaining multidimensional poverty in the population of the municipality of Linares, Nariño (Colombia).
