Patagonia in Flames: Analysis of Forest Fires in Argentine Patagonia (2020-2024)

Authors

Abstract

This article addresses the recent forest fires recorded in the Argentine Patagonian region, analyzing the multifactorial causes of these extreme events from a climatic and historical perspective. Through the use of remote sensing techniques and satellite imagery, the meteorological conditions associated with the La Niña phenomenon and other climatic factors are characterized, evaluating their influence on the occurrence and spread of the incidents. Likewise, the anthropic role in the current context of ecotourism is discussed, introducing a diachronic vision that links these events with historical changes in land use and occupation in the Patagonian territory. Finally, an integrated analysis of these natural and human factors is proposed to understand in a systemic way the increase in the frequency and intensity of forest fires in the region in recent decades.
