Abstract

The present work analyzes the nomina barbara in Late Antiquity, from the analysis of the divine entity Iaô, in diverse references extant in varied corpora: Magical Greek Papyri, and religious texts belonging to Jewish and Christian communities of this period. Our objective is to make visible the usefulness of the study of the nomina barbara, not only for studies focused on the apologetic controversies and transfers between different contemporary religious communities, but also to demonstrate its relevance in studies related to the variations and conceptions around the Tetragrammaton, from the centrality of Iaô's figure.
