Characterization of Lolium perenne L. and Lolium multiflorum Lam. cultivars by seed protein electrophoresis.

Abstract

Seed proteins of Lolium multiflorum and Lolium perenne cultivars have been evaluated by means of SDS-PAGE technique (Sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). Sixty samples from each original plot were analyzed. Protein banding was sharp, seventy-seven protein compounds with different mobilities have been found. Every cultivar showed a well-characterized electrophoretic pattern. The cultivars under evaluation were differentiated using the comparison among the different electrophoretic patterns regarding bands presence or absence, but not their respective intensities.
