Submission and Publication Guidelines

(Valid as from July 2022)

1. AgriScientia features unpublished original scientific articles —in both Spanish and English— that deal with topics of agronomic nature (agriculture, animal husbandry, environment, agrifood, etc.). AgriScientia features articles, short communications and reviews.

2. Before beginning the submission, authors must create a unique digital identifier for authors provided by ORCID. Orcid (Open Research and Contributor ID) is a unique researcher identifier that allows a precise identification of authors, distinguishing homonyms and maximising interoperability. To create your ORCID identifier enter here. It is free of charge.

3. To begin the application process for an article, send an e-mail at  agriscie@agro.unc.edu.ar requesting a user ID. In case you are already registered, you can simply log in and start the five-step process, remember clicking the author role.

To apply for publication, you will also have to send a submission letter (Download Form). This should be filled and signed, then scanned and sent as a supplementary file through the system (Step 4).

Once the user and password have been created you should log in AgriScientia Journal.Click in Author (Roles). Click in Start a new Submission. Follow the five steps: Step 1: Start the submission. Step 2: Upload submission. Step 3: Enter metadata. Step 4: Upload supplementary files. Step 5:  Confirm.

You should conform to the guidelines for authors since the disregard for them might result in the rejection of your paper.

4. You may submit articles, short communications or reviews. Papers (articles, short communications or reviews) should be clearly and concisely written, in Arial or Times New Roman font, size 12, 1 1/2 line spacing, with numbered lines and pages. You should strictly follow these specifications. The papers should be written in Open Office, Microsoft Word or RTF text editors.

5. Articles should have a logical structure with the following sequence of sections:

Title (in both Spanish and English)

Authors (including workplace, post address and ORCID identifier)

Correspondence to: e-mail address of one of the authors

Summary (200 words maximum)

Keywords

Introduction

Materials and Methods

Results and Discussion

Conclusions

Acknowledgements (optional)

Bibliography (following APA-AgriScientia Style).

6. Short communications are original articles with partial results; this category also comprises the descriptions of new species, cultivars, plagues and methodological adjustments. Short communications should have a Title in Spanish and English, Summary and Key Words. As for the body it should include the same sections as the article but there is some flexibility in their logical structure that AgriScientia editors would have to check and approve. Towards the end there should be the Acknowledgements section (optional) and the Bibliography.

7. As to the Reviews selected for publication, they should be authored by renowned researchers specialized in the particular field. Potential review authors should contact the Editor-in-Chief to suggest topics and approaches.

8. Full scientific names should be cited when first mentioned. In later mentions it is only necessary to use the initial letter of the genus plus the species, without the author. If the vulgar name is used, the scientific name should be included when mentioned for the first time.

9. All the Latin expressions, as any words in foreign languages that do not have an equivalent in Spanish, should be written in italics (e.g.: et al., in vitro, dumping off ), except for the families scientific names (e.g.:  Compositae, Poaceae).

10. Chemical symbols can be used throughout the text (e.g.:  N for nitrogen, C for carbon) whereas common chemical formulas can not be used to replace the words (e.g.: water, not H2O). Common abbreviations can be used, such as ATP, DNA, RNA, etc.

11. When the text refers to quantities, numbers from zero to nine should be written in letters, except when they go with measure units or the phrase includes larger numbers (e.g.:  3, 8 and 15 plots). In Spanish decimals are written after a comma and in English after a point.

12. The results may be shown in tables and figures, which should appear towards the end of the work with their corresponding captions, numbered independently and consecutively in Arabic numerals. The titles of tables and figures should express what is represented. According to the journal publishing layout the size of the figures should adapt to 7 cm of width (equivalent to one column) or 15 cm (equivalent to two columns), height can not exceed 20 cm. Figures should also be sent as supplementary files (Step 4 in OJS) in jpg or png image file format with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Photographies should also adjust to a width of 7 to 15 cm. Those without an excellent resolution or not conforming to previous requirements will be rejected.

13. The text should follow an adaptation of the American Psychological Association (APA) citation style. Only authors cited in the text should be included in the Bibliography section. In the text, cite authors’ last names up to five and complete with et al. plus the year of publication.  In later citations cite the first author’s last name plus et al. and the year of publication.  In the case of two authors, cite their two names throughout the text plus the year of publication. For more information click here.

14. All papers should cite the bibliographical references after the Acknowledgements section following APA style, sixth English edition and third Spanish edition.

15. Internet citations should be added to the reference list following APA style.

16. Articles submitted are pre-screened in order to verify that they conform to the current norms, and to evaluate that they comply with the journal scope as well as to assess their originality and quality. Pre-screened articles are then sent to external reviewers, national or foreign, selected among distinguished researchers with wide experience in the subject.  Their participation is anonymous and from their assessment follows the decision to accept or reject the article. Regardless of the decision reached, all the reviewers’ comments are sent to the authors.

17. Previous to its publication the paper will be sent to the author. The aim of this check is the correction of merely typographic errors.

18. The publication charges for papers are USD 15 per final laid out page. Publications having as their first author a teacher from FCA-UNC (Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba) or a scholarship researcher directed by a teacher from the FCA-UNC who appears as co-author of the work are exempted from charges.

19. AgriScientia follows the Guidelines on Best Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication set out by Scielo which comprises guidelines and recommendations of ethics standards and accountability in scholarly communication established by national and international institutions, among which stand out: COPE, CSE, Equator Network, ICMJE, CNPq, FAPESP. In cases of proven misconduct these guidelines shall apply.

20. In case of doubts regarding the submission of works or their evaluation write to agriscie@agro.unc.edu.ar.
