Guidelines for the submission of papers
(Effective January 2023)
AgriScientia publishes original and unpublished scientific articles written exclusively in English on agronomic topics (agriculture, livestock, environment, agri-foods, among others). It includes articles, short communications, and reviews.
Before submitting a manuscript, all authors must generate a unique author identifier, provided by ORCID. The ORCID (Open Research and Contributor ID) is a unique researcher identifier that ensures accurate author attribution, distinguishing between authors with similar names and maximizing interoperability. To generate an ORCID ID, click here. There is no cost. Manuscripts from authors without this code will not be accepted.
Manuscript submission is carried out through Open Journal Systems (OJS). If you are not registered, you must request a user account by emailing agriscie@agro.unc.edu.ar. If you already have an account, you can log in and begin the five-step process. When registering, ensure you select the author role.
To submit a manuscript, a publication request form must be attached (download template here). This form must be completed, signed, scanned, and uploaded as a supplementary file through the system (Step 4).
Once the username and password have been obtained, the author must log in to the journal system.
Click on the "Author" role. Click on "Start a new submission." Complete the five steps: Step 1: Start Submission / Step 2: Upload Submission / Step 3: Enter Metadata / Step 4: Upload Supplementary Files / Step 5: Confirmation.
Please follow these guidelines, as failure to follow these submission guidelines may result in manuscript rejection.
Articles, short communications, and reviews may be submitted. Manuscripts must be written clearly and concisely, using Arial or Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5-line spacing, with numbered pages and lines. They must strictly conform to these guidelines. Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF format.
Manuscripts should follow a logical structure, with the following sequence of sections:
Title (in Spanish and English)
Authors (institution of affiliation and ORCID code)
Correspondence to: e-mail of one of the authors.
Abstract/Summary (in Spanish and English, not exceeding 200 words).
Key words/Keywords (in English and Spanish)
Introduction
Materials and Methods
Results and discussion
Conclusions
Acknowledgements (if any)
References (formatted according to APA 7th edition).
Reviews by leading researchers on the subject of their specialty will be published. Potential review authors should contact the Scientific Director to propose topics and approaches.
Full scientific names must be cited upon first mention. In subsequent mentions, only the initial of the genus followed by the species may be used, without the classifier. If the common name is used, it should be accompanied by the scientific name at first mention.
Latin expressions and words in languages other than English must be italicized (e.g., in vitro), except for scientific family names (e.g., Compositae, Poaceae).
Chemical symbols may be used in the text (e.g., N for nitrogen, C for carbon); however, common chemical formulas should not be used to replace the corresponding words (e.g., water, not H₂O). Commonly used abbreviations, such as ATP, DNA, RNA, etc., may be used.
When the text refers to quantities, numbers from zero to nine should be expressed in letters, except when they are accompanied by units of measurement or when the citation includes larger numbers (e.g., 3, 8, and 15 plots). In English, decimals are written with commas.
The results of the research may be presented in tables and figures, which must be placed within the text with their corresponding legends, numbered independently and consecutively with Arabic numerals. The titles of tables and figures should clearly state what they represent. In the case of tables, the title should precede the table, and for figures, it should be placed below. According to the layout of the journal, figures should be adaptable to a width of 7 cm (equivalent to one column) or 15 cm (double column); the height should never exceed 20 cm. Figures should also be submitted as supplementary files (Step 4 in OJS) in JPG or PNG format, with a resolution of no less than 300 DPI. Photographs must also fit a width of 7 or 15 cm. Photographs with insufficient definition or that do not meet these requirements will not be accepted.
In the text, the citation style of the American Psychological Association (APA, 7th ed.) must be used. Only authors cited in the text should be included in the bibliography. Regarding in-text citations, works with two authors should include both authors' last names in every citation (and the year of publication); for works with more than two authors, only the first author's last name should be included, followed by 'et al.' (and the year of publication). For more information on citation, see here.
Articles submitted are pre-screened in order to verify that they conform to the current norms, to evaluate that they comply with the journal scope as well as to assess their originality and quality. Pre-screened articles are sent to external reviewers, national or international, selected among distinguished researchers with wide experience in the subject. Their participation is anonymous and from their assessment follows the decision to accept or reject the article. Regardless of the decision reached, the reviewers’ feedback is sent to the authors.
Prior to publication, a proof copy will be sent to the author. Proofs are only for corrections of typographical errors.
The publication fee is $15 per final formatted page. This charge is waived for those publications that have as first author a FCA-UNC faculty member, or a fellow directed by a FCA-UNC faculty member, and listed as co-author of the paper (OHCD 8/2017).
