A new pest of cotton in Córdoba, “la broca”, Eutinobothrus brasiliensis (Hambleton) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)
Main Article Content
Abstract
A new pest of cotton plants in the cotton area under irrigation in Cruz del Eje, Córdoba, Argentina, was detected. Samplings were carried out in six plots (with cotton plants in the flowering-fruiting stage) to determine the presence of the causal agent and to evaluate the injuries caused by the pest. The insect was determined as Eutinobothrus brasiliensis (Hambleton), (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). The larvae dried galleries between the cortex and the pith of the plant, causing its death. It was estimated that 5% of the plants were injured by the pest.
