This paper presents a proposal for an indicator of social vulnerability, using data from a Survey on Life Conditions in year 2001. Based on the AVEO approach (assets, vulnerability and structure of opportunities), different dimensions of ulnerability are studied: demographic, environmental, human capital, job, social protection and social capital. With a statistical methodology based on logistic regression, one variable is selected as representative of each dimension, which are then combined in a single indicator, called Vulnerability Social Index. Finally, different groups of households defined by this index are characterized.
