Abstract

One of the challenges of the Economics of Innovation is the construction of models that seek to describe and explain companies’ behavior during R+D activity development, and these models’ application for S&T and Innovation policy design. This paper analyses a sample of innovative companies in Mexico, which were granted by the Technological Innovation Program of the Ministry of Economy and CONACYT. Our aim was to build up a classification in order to explain innovation capabilities of the granted firms, and to assess the performance of their R+D projects. For this purpose, we used two statistical techniques: conglomerates and correspondences. The taxonomy we obtained describes stylized facts and STI capabilities of the companies and their projects’ impacts. We conclude that the problem of convergence or divergence may be linked to market structural factors or to the role played by some institutions.
