FLIGHT STAFF: Care organization in serious crises: Mayday Foundation
Keywords:
Flying personnel, critical incidents, peers, prevention, wok – and financial effectsAbstract
This article describes how the Mayday Foundation (Stiftung Mayday) supports flying personnel after critical incidents, what measures are taken and how they are organized. The measures taken depend mainly on how long ago the incident occurred and whether a single person or one or even several crews are to be looked after. In order to ensure that the support functions smoothly, the peers, mental health professionals, the respective management and the potential affected people must be trained in advance. The importance of confidentiality and respect for it must be clear to all those involved. Especially in aviation, but also otherwise, the network of peers and mental health professionals plays a decisive role. Last but not least, the article deals with the savings that the establishment of a peer support system brings.
