Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the return of political exile to Brazil after the amnesty in 1979. The focus is particularly on Rui Mauro Marini, Theotônio dos Santos and Vânia Bambirra, a group of intellectuals who started their professional career at Universidade de Brasília (UnB), when University had just been founded. With the 1964 coup, they were persecuted, arrested and decided for exile. After the Amnesty Law, they returned to Brazil and had problems with reintegration. The lack of warm reception and the treatment given to the returnees reveal the obstacles of the Brazilian transition.
