LINGUISTIC LANDSCAPE RESEARCH REVIEW AND FUTURE PROSPECTS: A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS

Since the volume of the International Journal of Multilingualism edited by Gorter (2006), the research on the Linguistic Landscape (LL) has aroused increasing attention in the field of Sociolinguistics and connected disciplines. With the help of the bibliometric analysis software CiteSpace, this article visualizes the literature review related to the Linguistic Landscape published in Web of Science from 2001 to 2022 with the aim of exposing the thematic approaches and the main trends of the LL. The research shows a continuous growth of scientific production in the analyzed period. As part of the findings, it is found that the most productive journals are related to multilingualism and sociolinguistics, while the most prolific authors and institutions are scattered in America, Europe, Asia and South Africa. The thematic approaches that stand out are the English language, the street renaming, bilingual education (critical pedagogy), the linguistic police, linguistic identity as well as commodification. Furthermore, the works of Shohamy (2010), Backhaus (2007) and Ben Rafael (2006) are the most cited in the field of LL.
