Abstract

In an effort to improve library services, we consider it important to apply Emotional Intelligence (EI) in the daily activities carried out within our libraries. For this reason, EI should be included in the curricula of the institution in which Library Studies is taught, and further training should also be considered, in order to prepare future professionals for the work they will do. Nowadays, the importance of EI to help recognize and control one’s emotions has become apparent. Moreover, EI provides tools to perceive the emotional state of others, allowing one to be more emphatic. In this article, pseudo-dogmatic paradigms and old-fashioned model will be countered by definitions, concepts and emotional competences coming from the study of EI.
