Abstract

Objective: This research points to the influence of STS Studies on bibliotherapy, such as the Information professional role, based on theoretical concepts of Library and Information Science. Methodology: It is a qualitative study, with exploratory-descriptive character. It takes into account the interdisciplinary nature of bibliotherapy and the knowledge premises of STS
Studies. Results: It shows the convenience of studying bibliotherapy since the STS principles, such as the confluences of Library and Information Science in this field, with regard to its theoretic evolution and professional practice. Conclusions: The STS studies benefit the whole society since a new perspective about scientific research. Bibliotherapy shows full consonance
with this approach, taking into account its interdisciplinary character. Moreover, it links Humanities and Medical Sciences, with a social purpose. Therapeutic reading has strong relationships with Library and Information Science, beginning from epistemic bases and the social object. The STS studies strengthen the role of librarians and information professionals in
this field.
